New Venue; New Focus

Twelve thousand seems like a relatively big number, but what if that number represented your yearly income? That is the stark reality for many in Frakes, KY, where financial struggles haunt the community daily. A staggering 12-16% of residents live below the poverty line, navigating life in a constant state of uncertainty. Many families reside in what are termed “dark” or “dry” homes, meaning they do not even have access to basic utilities like power or water. For those of us who take these amenities for granted, it’s hard to fathom the depth of this deprivation. I can’t even recall the last time I threw a light switch and nothing happened, or turned on a faucet and nothing came out. These simple acts, so routine for most Americans, are distant luxuries for many families in Frakes. America is a land of stark contrasts, so vast that we have both people struggling without essential resources and those living in abundance, indulging in excess to the point where they treat their water supply as a mere convenience, sometimes even flushing away wealth without a second thought. The disconnect is jarring, highlighting a pressing need for empathy and systemic change in our approach to poverty and resource distribution.

From here in, I feel called to focus our charitable efforts towards Frakes and regions like it, recognizing the pressing needs and unique challenges faced by these communities. That’s where the Henderson Settlement comes in, serving as a vital resource that connects us to those in greatest need. They have established a strong network that can distribute the resources collected by our efforts effectively. We can easily filter cash and material object donations through them, ensuring that each contribution has the maximum impact on the lives of individuals and families residing in these underserved areas. By collaborating with the Henderson settlement, we can strengthen our outreach and foster a sense of community that uplifts everyone involved in this noble endeavor.

To that end, I have moved venues yet again back to D&B Logistics in Fort Myers. The Lehigh facility was great, offering a spacious environment and modern amenities, and the staff was incredibly accommodating and eager to help. However, despite the quality of the location and the professionalism of the team, the lack of attendance simply did not justify the effort that was being put into each event. I found myself investing significant time and resources into planning and executing these gatherings, only to see minimal turnout, which was disappointing. In contrast, D&B Logistics has a proven track record of attracting a larger audience, and I believe that returning to this venue will foster greater engagement and enthusiasm among participants, ultimately making the events more worthwhile.
