Becoming “Real”

If you’ve been following along, we’ve set up a venue for gaming and meetups, fired off our first event, and as a special treat, we’ve ordered signage which came in today. I, personally, am jazzed about this tool, as it will not only enhance the visibility of our gatherings but also act as a focal point for the community. I can see it directing people to where we are playing while simultaneously promoting our initiative to collect food for the hungry. It’s a blast to think how much fun we’ll have fostering connections and friendships through gaming, all while contributing to a noble cause. The excitement crescendos as we anticipate the joy of many participants and the impact we can potentially have on those in need within our community.

I also got a chance to meet some missionaries for Paris this week, which was an enlightening experience. It helped a lot as I have always had a nagging feeling of not doing enough for Christ or to represent him to my fellow humans. During our conversations, they shared their own journeys and struggles, which made me realize that everyone grapples with similar doubts and uncertainties. They taught me that not everything has to hammer home the message of Salvation; rather, it’s often more impactful to simply be present, offering kindness and compassion. Sometimes, it’s about living out our faith and letting the proverbial light shine through our actions and interactions with others. In this way, we can create genuine connections over time that may lead others to explore their own paths toward spirituality and understanding.

They introduced me to the term diatribo. A Greek word meaning (among other things) to spend or pass time, it beautifully encapsulates the essence of what it means to engage with others meaningfully. This concept encompasses the vision of Resolve rather well, emphasizing that spending time with others through the medium of gaming not only provides entertainment but also fosters genuine connections. Engaging in gaming can create a platform for shared experiences and opportunities to demonstrate kindness, as players collaborate, compete, and communicate. Every interaction within a game, from strategizing in a team to supporting someone in need, becomes a chance to cultivate empathy and understanding, ultimately enriching our relationships and building a community rooted in compassion and mutual respect.
